Pictures of Stuttgart,
Germany. Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Wrttemberg, is a city
in the south-west of Germany with a population of about 590,000.
Stuttgart has numerous hotels and hostels to choose from, and
some of them are very reasonably priced, yet still good. One of
these is the recently refurbished B&B Hotel
Stuttgart-Vaihingen. This budget hotel in the suburb of
Vaihingen is handy for the motorway (5 minutes) and the airport
(6km) and offers free parking. From the S-Bahn station 1km away,
trains run to the city centre in 15 minutes. The 108 en-suite
rooms are a little small but air-conditioned and bright and
clean, and the whole hotel is colourfully decorated. A buffet
breakfast is available, and there is free wifi and satellite TV.
For something more central yet still at a good price, the
Alex 30 Hostel claims to be the first hostel in
Stuttgart to offer the serviceof a hotel, and certainly it is
well recommended. The hostel is close to several S-Bahn stations
and has a bar and common room, as well as a kitchen and outdoor
terrace. Bed linen is included and towels are available to hire.
Slightly more expensive rooms on the top floor have great views
over the city, but if you choose one of these be prepared for a
lot of stairs! Stuttgart International Youth Hostel
in Haussmannstrasse is also well reviewed. Yes it’s a tiring 15
minute walk up hill from the centre, but when you get there the
views are amazing. However there is a tram stop nearby as an
alternative to the 10 minute climb up steps from the station,
and if you have a car there is free parking. This hostel has a
mix of single rooms, twins, family rooms and single-gender
dormitories. There are also some rooms for four, and special
rates for parties.
For those wanting a little more luxury in the city centre, try
the excellent Kronen Hotel in Kronenstrasse,
which is close both to the main train station and the shopping
streets. The rooms in this modern hotel are spacious and
comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. For something
in between the hostels and the Kronen, the Ibis Styles
chain of hotels has one in the suburb of Bad Cannstatt, about
1.5km from the city centre. This is an old, interesting area
with lots of restaurants and wine bars within walking distance.
The hotel itself is modern with a fitness area, outdoor terrace,
restaurant and bar, and 156 rooms ranging from Standard twins to
Suites for two, three or four adults. You can leave your car in
the hotel’s private garage for a daily fee.
