Germany

The Federal Republic of Germany, as it is officially called, has 16 states or ‘Bundeslnder. Its bustling capital city is Berlin. Germany was divided into East and West after World War II and reunified in 1990 with the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. A founder member of the European Union, it is the member state with the largest population, numbering over 82 million inhabitants.

Visitors to Germany are often surprised at its diversity – picturesque villages, well-preserved medieval towns, crystal-clear lakes and snow-capped mountains. Not to mention fairytale castles, the mystical Black Forest and scenic river cruises on the Rhine, Moselle and Danube etc. Germany is noted for its variety of landscapes and some truly breathtaking scenery.
The festive Christmas markets offer a romantic ambience while the world-famous “Oktoberfest” beer festival in Munich is dedicated to high spirits and hilarity. Germany has some splendid cities with chic shopping and a wide kaleidoscope of culture. The city pavement cafes are perfect places to rest, relax and people watch! Germany also has no fewer than 25 UNESCO World Heritage Sites - something which speaks for itself.

Thirty regional and international airports are scattered across the country and Germany’s motorway network is legendary. Touring routes such as the Romantic Road, Castle Road and Fairy Tale Road are also very popular. A wide variety of accommodation is available, with hotels in all categories including castle hotels, traditional guest houses, holiday parks, spa resorts and self catering accommodation.
Take a trip to Germany. It’s great!
